And just like that another month is over. The beginning of April was super busy with 9 to 5 the Musical, but the rest of the month was a welcome rest from rehearsal and show craziness. Let’s dive in, shall we?
CrossFit
Not much to say other than the fact that I still love it. I’m starting to see my body composition change a little, which is very exciting. I wish it weren’t so expensive, though. I have been using money from my year-end bonus to pay for my membership, but when those funds run out, I’m going to have to do some serious budget-trimming if I want to keep it up. Which I do. Cause it’s awesome.
Running
I did five runs in April, for a total of 16ish miles. Although I’m still dealing with some shoe uncertainty, the actual running is going pretty well. I’m taking it slow and easy coming back from five months off, and I’m feeling good. The goal is to continue running 2-3 times a week through all of my races this month, and then re-evaluate from there. I don’t have any other races on the radar for this year, and it’s hard to plan ahead too far when we’re hoping to try to get pregnant later this summer.
I’m toying with the idea of training for a PR half, but I doubt that will happen. I think a 10k PR is a much more reasonable goal right now considering all of the uncertainty. Not to mention the fact that I got totally burned out marathon training last year and I do NOT want a repeat of that.
Yoga
I went to two hot yoga classes this month, and I am SO GLAD. Between running and CrossFit, I’m often tight or sore, so a good deep stretch every week or so is essential to staying flexible. Plus, it just makes me feel good. I love the regular Thursday 5 pm teacher, and the studio location is really convenient. I’m hoping to bump up my attendance to once a week, but I may not be able to keep up with the expense in addition to CF. Also, there’s the fact that it’s getting nice out, and I’m reluctant to spend even more time indoors. We’ll see.
Theatre
9 to 5 the Musical wrapped up at the beginning of the month. Overall, it was a very positive experience, and I’m so glad I got to do the show.
I’ve been really enjoying these few weeks of not having rehearsal. I’ve been able to reconnect with family and friends, re-establish a routine, and just enjoy not “having” to be anywhere four times a week. While I LOVE doing theatre, it’s basically an extra unpaid part-time job.
Dogfight rehearsals officially start up on May 16, so I still have some unstructured time to enjoy. We’re planning a visit to my parents for Mother’s Day weekend and hopefully some other fun activities before all my free time goes away again.
Highlight
Other than 9 to 5 being tons of fun, house sitting was my favorite part of this month. Ben and I got to stay in a beautiful house with a hot tub for almost two weeks, and spend some time just the two of us together, which hasn’t happened much lately. It was great to reconnect, cook together, and just hang out after how crazy this winter/spring was for us.
Lowlight
My friend Stacy moved to Albany this past weekend. I know it’s not that far, but it’s far enough that I won’t get to see her very much, and I’ll miss her.
Goals
As a refresher, my goals for April were:
- Go to CF 9 times (prorated membership due to being busy with the show)–nope!
- Go to yoga at least twice–check!
- Run at least three times–check!
- Schedule either wisdom teeth removal or gum surgery (yuck!)—nope!
All in all I’m happy with how the month went down. Considering how busy early April was, it’s a miracle I made it to the 8 CrossFit classes I did. And honestly, scheduling either oral surgery was a bit of a reach goal. The good news is, I have a regular dentist appointment in May, and can probably take care of scheduling consults for one or both surgeries while I’m in the office.
And some goals for May:
- Go to CF at least 10 times (my membership allows for 12 classes per month)
- Go to yoga at least twice
- Do at least one “long” run (4+ miles)
- Take the Honda to the dealership to deal with the airbag recall notice
How did your April shape up?
Sounds like you had a great month!!! Hope your gum surgery turns out ok. I am with ya on dental work….YUCK indeed!
Thanks, Michelle! Fingers crossed it’s not too bad.
