Leaf Peepers Half Marathon Training Week 5
What Was Planned vs. What Happened
Monday 08/08/16: Yoga | Rest
No excuses other than “I was tired.” I made dinner for the next few days and then just sat on my butt for the evening, and it felt great.
Tuesday 08/02/16: 3 Miles + Abs | Rest
Umm, again with no excuses. Yikes.
Wednesday 08/03/16: Rest | Rest
Ahem. Yup. I was “tired.”
Thursday 08/04/16: 6 x 400 | Rest
Same.
Friday 08/05/16: Rest | Rest
OK, this is really starting to get ridiculous.
Saturday 08/06/16: 100 on 100 Relay | 13 Miles Total
If you follow me on social media, you’ve already seen that we didn’t finish due to severe lightning storms, but you’ll have to wait until Wednesday for a full recap!
Sunday 08/07/16: Rest | Rest
I had some DOMS and was very tired after Saturday, so when I got home, I took an epsom salt bath and just relaxed until Ben got home–REUNITED, YAY! We went out for a nice dinner and then just read and relaxed until bedtime.
Weekly Mileage: 13
Total 2016 Mileage: 491.7
So, not the best week ever. I’ve been mulling over whether or not to address my mindset this week in a larger post, but the long and short of it is, I was feeling a little overwhelmed by life, the universe, and everything. A combination of nerves over the 100 on 100 relay, being alone and having to take care of everything around the house myself while Ben is in PA, and freaking out about moving in three weeks just had me feeling like, “Well, if I can’t do everything, I might as well not do anything at all.” I get like that sometimes; I get paralyzed by everything I have to do, and instead of just prioritizing the list and getting after it, I freeze.
Now that the relay is over, my work client appreciation event is over, and Ben is home, I’m hoping to get back into the swing of things. I’ve got lots to look forward to this week, including hopefully FINALLY getting back to yoga, a voice lesson, and a wedding! And Ben is “off” for the next few weeks, so he can get a jump start on all of the packing. Ugh. Packing. I swear, every time we move, I have a better understanding of people who practice a minimalist lifestyle. “WHO NEEDS 12 GLASSES?! LET’S JUST GET RID OF ALL OF THEM BUT 2! F*&^ THIS S#@&!”
Do you hate moving as much as I do?
Yay for Douglas Adams references!
I was so hoping someone would catch that 🙂
I have definitely had weeks like this, and times where I’ve gotten so overwhelmed by everything that I just sit and stare at my phone, or the tv, or play video games rather than chipping away at the stuff that is overwhelming me. Seeing it from the outside, I like the think of it as a recharge period (in the moment, I’m usually just alternating between kicking myself and ignoring the kicks). Also, moving sucks. A lot. Sending hugs!
Oh god, does moving suck. Trying to take deep breaths and just know that it will all get done.
Before you know it, it will be over and done with!
Definitely had a laugh at this 🙂 All of it.
Cut yourself some slack … you’ve got a lot of crap going on, and normalcy can help with things.
I also doubly laughed at the glasses – we’ve added sets of Mom/Dan coffee mugs for NYU and Ithaca (and a second Ithaca set since the first ones were ‘meh’ and then they got new ones for orientation!) … because we ARE those people (no surprise). Add on all the mugs for the boys, and we can barely fir everything in the cupboard! Time to purge!
Hate moving – last house was 13 years, now we’re just past 8 here in NY … ugh, look forward 5 years to a probably ‘downsizing’ move … fun.
Moving is the absolute worst. I’m hopeful that the move after this one will be into a house that we will stay in for a good long time.
Sometimes we need to have weeks like this. Not that we really want to but we need to. Don’t be hard on yourself.
Can’t wait to read about your race !
I’m ok with it now. I think I did just need to take a step back and relax.
Looks like we had similar weeks, lol! Both our Bens were gone and we struggled with workouts 😦 Welp, it happens. Here’s to a new week!! ❤
Cheers to that!
I hate moving, hate it. I haven’t even moved that much but my I moved my grandparents like 15 times and I hate it. Good luck. I am looking forward to the relay recap. I’ve had those weeks before, actually last week was kind of like that. Hope you have a better week!
Thanks, Fallon. Fingers crossed!
